U16 Girls v Athy

Ballymore-Eustace v Athy – U16 Girls Division 5

10th September 2022

FT: BME (2 – 05) Athy (1 – 07)

Last round of the league the BME U16 girls were home against Athy.  It was a slow burner for BME, Athy scored six points before the girls got their first score of the match in the seventeenth minute.  Athy were back down the pitch exerting great pressure on the back line, three great opportunities for goals, with BME only conceding one.  This was the last score of the first half giving Athy a eight-point lead going into the second half.

This game certainly summed up a game of two halves.  A rally of spirits meant the BME girls burst into the second half with two points before Athy travelled up the pitch for another point. Incredible play from the BME girls was the beginning of their great comeback.  The girls scored an additional (2 – 02) giving them a one-point lead going into the last five minutes.  Great defending from the team held Athy off the board and earned the girls an unbelievable win which they deserved.  The girls have secured their place in the semi-final on the 15 October, details to be confirmed.  Excellent team-spirit girls!!

Scorers: Aoife Clarke (0 – 01), Eimear Mooney (0 – 03), Daire Graham (1 – 01), Liadain Conroy (1 – 0).
