Team: Championship – Junior B Ladies
Date: 28 July 2020
Venue: Ballymore GAA Club
Result: Ballymore-Eustace (0 – 14) V Athy (0 – 11)
The long-awaited Round 1 of the Championship was played at home on July 28th, against Athy, and it didn’t disappoint.
The match was tense from the outset. Ballymore won the throw in but it was Athy who worked the first score within the first couple of minutes. Athy secured the next from a free before Aibhe Graham put BME on the scoreboard. Athy got another and nearly a goal only for a great save from our goalie Dawn Murray. The first water break gave Athy the lead with one point.
A team talk from management seemed to settle the nerves, with BME notching up 5 points to Athy’s 2 before half time with BME (0 – 06) Athy (0 – 05)
The two teams kept up the momentum in the 3rd quarter with both teams popping them over the bar. Another great save from Dawn held the match level before the last 15 minutes.
The final quarter gave Athy a penalty resulting in another point for them. With the last couple of minutes of play Ballymore held a three-point lead, Amy Horan caught a great ball in the box from a free which would have brought the two teams’ level. Final Whistle BME (0 – 14) Athy (0 – 11)
A super performance from the BME ladies gives them their first win of the championship. Well done!! Next match is away in Celbridge on 4th August. Great to see such local support on the side line tonight.
