Intermediate Football Championship Quarter Final
FT: Ballymore 1-14 Ballyteague 0-13.
Ballyteague got the first two points of the match from Stephen Ennis and Jimmy Hyland, which were followed by Ballymore’s opening point from Shane Barrett. Ennis got another for Ballyteague then Ballymore hit three in a row from Niall, Patrick & Simon Murphy. Ennis and Hyland got two more for Ballyteague then Simon and Patrick Murphy scored two more for Ballymore. Jimmy Hyland got the final score of the first quarter to make it Ballyteague 0-06 Ballymore 0-06 at the water break.
Hyland put Ballyteague one ahead but Ballymore responded with three points in a row from Tadhg Barrett, Niall Murphy and Brian Crowe. A great goal from Simon Murphy just before half time made it Ballymore 1-09 Ballyteague 0-07 at the break.
Ballymore had a brilliant start to the second half scoring four points in a row, one each from Simon Murphy and Caolan Halpin followed by two from Niall Murphy. Ballyteague’s next point came from Stephen Connolly. Second half water break Ballymore 1-13 Ballyteague 0-08.
Despite trailing by eight points, Ballyteague never gave up and with the next three points coming from Jimmy Hyland to reduce the gap to five. Two more points followed for Ballyteague, one each from Ennis and Hyland, reduced the gap to three going into the final minutes. It was Ballymore who prevailed by four in the end though, as Niall Murphy scored the final point of the match.
