St. Edwards 5.13; BME 5.6
Ballymore travelled to St. Edwards for the second round of the U12’s Seanie Barber cup. Despite the poor conditions both teams put on a really excellent display of football.
Ballymore opened the scoring with a well taken goal, however, St. Edwards pushed hard and put over 3 points without reply to bring the game level. Ballymore managed to break out and hit the back of the net again but St. Edwards levelled the game once again with three more points.
After the water break both teams were cancelling each other out until a free kick for Ballymore was dropped into the box and flicked on soccer style into the back of the net for a sensational goal. Ballymore added a couple of points before St. Edwards pulled a goal back. A point and a goal for Ballymore as well as another goal for St. Edwards brought the first half to a close, St. Edwards 2.6, BME 4.3 at half time.
The third quarter of the game opened with significant pressure from St. Edwards on the Ballymore defence and, unfortunately for the visitors, the home team were converting many of their opportunities.
By the close of the third quarter St. Edwards were leading 3.10 to 4.3. Ballymore tried hard to close the gap in the last quarter but, as St. Edwards brought on their reinforcements, they proved too strong for the tired legs of their opponents.
